why can't hammer be this easy?
Geez, no kidding. We'd be able to crank out customs maps like crazy.
is there a converter?
But.... hammer is about that easy. It's really not that hard to use if you take a few hours to learn it. You just draw brushes into rectangles or cylanders and arrange them how you want. Once you're done you go back and texture things and add lighting. Detailing isn't as easy as other editors, but the general map creation is easy.
Watching through the video again, hammer does everything in that video in essentially the same way except for lighting (which the video never gets into, it only says that it has fancy lighting effects that hammer also does), and that one screen where it was toggling colors. I have no idea what that is... But... for the map creation part, the point and click, point and retexture, and all that jazz. Hammer does that. Its a different interface, its not designed to be so showy and whatnot. For instance, to see all the models and their animations you must create an entity, go to world model, and click browse. But then you have a list of all the world models, which you can search using the search tool, and then view the animations, textures and all that.
They wouldn't make hammer this easy because it couldn't ever be this easy. Hammer is the tool that valve themselves use, and they are giving the community just that. The unreal editor may be easy, but it obviously could never make a payload map.
As a matter of note - Please please please do not post to a thread that is over a week old unless you have something earth shaking that relates to that thread. IN this case, this is a thread that is over a year old.
I would suggest today marking the entire forum read and waiting until tomorrow to read anything new.
