I'm a big listener of indie music, and it's always great to find other people who listen to the same obscure indie bands as I do. Anyone an indie fan or have ever listened to Minus the Bear, This Town Needs Guns, Forward, Russia!, Scarlet Harlots, or The Postal Service?

Indie is not a genre of music. I really wish people would stop saying that. It's pop rock if nothing else.

    Wikipedia:

"In popular music, independent music, often abbreviated as indie, is a term used to describe independence from major commercial record labels and an autonomous, do-it-yourself approach to recording and publishing.

Independent Labels have been known to strive for minimal influence on the artist they represent, avoiding the artist-cultivating behavior of many major labels. Artists represented by Indie labels have been known to be focused more on producing music than becoming wealthy and/or well known."

Indie music to me deals with aspects of non-conformity, which I'm all for.

Wow, troll some more. It's more complicated than just 'pop rock'.

I've never heard of those bands Nipples, but I like a number of bands who were in some way inspired by Indie revival. On the more Rock/Punk side I especially like Franz Ferdinand and the Artic Monkeys, and more Dance-y I've recently got into MSTRKRFT and the Klaxons.

By quoting Wikipedia, I rest my case.

My girlfriend likes a lot of indie stuff like Hayden, Pavement, The Pixies, etc., but I've never been a fan of it. Thank goodness she likes punk and grunge too or we'd never get through a trip in the car! I saw Hayden live, as well as Hawksley Workman, so I don't completely shun her love of indie, lol!

Luckily we've got our mutually-appreciated shows that we go to: last few shows we've been to were Tool, Killswitch Engage (feat. Hatebreed), NIN, System of a Down (feat. The Mars Volta), and we're going to see Eagle of Death Metal in August.

    Oh boy...IT'S ON!

The last ten bands I've listened to:

    Xiu Xiu
    Sunset Rubdown
    Yeah Yeah Yeahs
    Les Savy Fav
    This Bike is a Pipebomb
    The Knife
    Botch
Murder by Death (my second favorite band of all time)(check them out)
    The Builders and The Butchers
    The Weakerthans

Not to toot my own horn...but I am a total music elitist. Pitchfork media don't have shit on me.

Also, "Indie" is really anything that isn't associated with a large label. Such as MF Doom...which is rap...which is "indie".
On the flip side, Radiohead, although awesome, isn't "indie".

Think dance-y, punk, country, rock and/or roll.

I clapped my hands furiously when you said Botch.

But yeah, I don't just listen to indie music, I'm a big fan of everything. KsE, LoG, old school hip hop, mathrock, etc.

I am not familiar with the terms KsE or LoG. What bands in math rock do you like?

If you're not being sarcastic, KsE is Killswitch Engage and LoG is Lamb of God. As far as math rock goes, I'm a fan of Don Caballero, Protest the Hero, Botch, This Town Needs Guns, to name a few.

No, I am not being sarcastic. I just don't listen to Killswitch Engage or Lamb of God, so I was wondering what the abbreviations you used stood for, that's all :).

Modern Life is War was one of the greats in hardcore. Witness is a fantastic record.
